“Love always wins!” writes Bukayo Saka as Trippier eyes for a Premier League return

July 16, 2021

It’s been five days since the curtain dropped to the glorious summer tournaments of UEFA EURO 2020 and Copa America 2021 and the football world has been buzzing with the news. Italy had ended their 53-year-old European Championship draught and took the cup to Rome straight after their win to celebrate with the people who have been their support since the initiation of the group stage encounters. Messi with Argentina winning the first major championship for his country had celebrated their triumphant glory with their fans at the Buenos Aires where they were greeted with a heroic welcome.

When all these were happening, the clubs across Europe are preparing for their summer signings and they finally revealed their shopping carts to the world and left us in surprise. But in between all these transfer tussles, the English players who had missed the penalties which led to England losing their first-ever finale in 55 years were racially abused by the English fans. Discrimination based on skin color is not acceptable and the whole of the sensible community took to social media and protested against this incident and here is a look at what Bukayo Saka had to say about this-

Now moving on to the latest news in the world of football here are some of the glimpses of this week’s headline:

  1. Lionel Messi has agreed to a five-year contract with Barcelona which will keep him in the Camp Nou till 2026. The Argentine forward has confirmed his deal with a 50 percent pay cut due to the ongoing financial wager situation at the club. The Catalan giants need to reduce their wage bill by 200 million Euros and right now the club is on the verge of bankruptcy (According to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, Barcelona have faced a total of 117 million Euros in the financial year of 2020 and right now they are in a debt of 1.4 billion Euros) and some damage control is required otherwise it will cause a problem to register their latest signings Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia, Memphis Depay and Emerson Royal with the league. There have been recent talks of a swap deal between Antoine Griezmann and Saul Niguez of Athletico Madrid but there is still no confirmation of it. Let’s hope that they sort the situation out as they have already started by offloading some players on loan to other clubs with a buy-out option. We are suspecting that with Messi’s pay cut agreement other highest-paid players of the squad like Sergio Busquets and Gerard Pique will also be asked to accept a lower salary.

2. Gianluigi Donnarumma leaves AC Milan and signs for Paris Saint Germain. The 22-year-old Italian international whose extraordinary display in the penalty shootout for his country in the EURO finals has made the world stop and stare. He has finally moved on from AC Milan where he had made 215 appearances for the Rossoneri and fulfilled the dream of all the PSG supporters and traveled to Paris two days back to confirm his new club. He signed a contract with the Ligue 1 side till 2026. We would like to wish him All the Best in his future endeavors.

3. Arjen Robben retires from Football. The Dutch international who enjoyed a successful and illustrious career throughout his active years have finally announced his retirement from football yesterday. The 37-year-old winger was famous for his speed, dribbling skills and precision in long-range shots drifted to the club that took him to the limelight, FC Groningen in 2019 after his 10-year spell with Bayern Munich. He earned a total of 96 caps for his country and scored a total of 37 goals. A brilliant and exceptional player like him whose name caused chaos in the oppositions defense line turned out to be a man of few words as he took to social media and wrote-

“Dear football friends, I have decided to quit my active football career. A very difficult choice to make. I want to thank everyone for all the heartwarming support! Greetings, Arjen”

Football will certainly miss his presence on the field and we would like to wish him well for his coming adventures.

4. Manchester United has opened talks with Raphael Varane and is planning a double swoop to strengthen their defense by targeting Kieran Trippier. The transfer market is turning out to be yet another spectacular affair this year and Manchester United unlike their city rivals are making their way up to the news. After Jadon Sancho’s 90 million Euro deal confirmation, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Co. had stepped their foot forward to join the chase of the French international Raphael Varane and EURO 2020 hero of England Kieran Trippier. The duo is reported to cost the Red Devils a total of 68 million pounds. Raphael Varane is expected to make up 50 million pounds of the cost as the Los Blancos center-back is keen to join a new club as he enters his last year of contract with his current club. Kieran Trippier is looking for a comeback at the Premier League this season after his two years of success at Athletico Madrid who has shown interest in Jesse Lingard if United decides to sell him this summer.

5. Seria A bans the green-colored kits from the 2022/23 season onwards. The Seria A has decided to ban green-colored football kits from next season because of the concerns that the players would blend in with the grass. It is for Sassuolo we are feeling sorry for.
